Bigg Boss 19 - Salman Khan
As Bigg Boss gears up for its 19th season, all eyes are once again on Salman Khan, who returns as the host. Known for his commanding screen presence and witty commentary, Salman has been the face of Bigg Boss for over a decade. However, this time, there’s a surprising twist — the superstar’s remuneration for the season has reportedly taken a sharp dip.
According to a report by SCREEN, cited by News18, Salman Khan is expected to earn between Rs 120 crore and Rs 150 crore for his role as host in Bigg Boss 19. The show is slated to run for approximately 15 weeks, which means Salman will earn about Rs 8 to 10 crore per weekend. This figure, while still massive by industry standards, is notably lower than what he received in previous seasons.
Adding to the surprise, Salman will reportedly host the show only for the first three months. For the remaining duration, other celebrity hosts like Farah Khan, Karan Johar, or Anil Kapoor might take over. All three have previously hosted versions of Bigg Boss and are familiar with the format and audience expectations.
Salman’s pay for Bigg Boss 19 marks a significant reduction from earlier seasons. He was reportedly paid Rs 250 crore for Bigg Boss 18 and Rs 200 crore for Bigg Boss 17. The drop in his fee this time reflects a decrease of roughly 40 to 52 percent.
Industry sources suggest this reduction may be part of a broader cost-cutting strategy, as Bigg Boss 19 leans more toward an OTT-driven format. The show is expected to premiere on August 30 on JioCinema and will later have a delayed 90-minute telecast on television. This hybrid format mirrors Bigg Boss OTT Season 2, which Salman also hosted and for which he was reportedly paid Rs 96 crore.
This season isn’t just making headlines for Salman’s salary. The makers are planning to introduce significant format changes. In a bold move, contestants will reportedly have more control over the house. This includes decisions related to evictions, ration distribution, and the outcome of weekly tasks.
Another notable change is in the show’s branding. The iconic command, “Bigg Boss chahte hain,” is being replaced by the line “Bigg Boss janna chahte hain,” signaling a fresh tone and direction for the season. These changes are expected to give the show a more interactive and dynamic feel, keeping longtime fans intrigued while attracting a new digital-first audience.
Even with the reduced fee and shorter hosting window, Salman Khan continues to be the central appeal of Bigg Boss. His weekend appearances have long been a highlight for viewers, bringing high TRPs and viral moments. His ability to balance humor, authority, and empathy makes him irreplaceable — even when others step in for part of the season.
As anticipation builds, fans are eagerly waiting for more updates on the contestant lineup and theme for this season. Bigg Boss 19 may be changing in format and finances, but its signature mix of drama and entertainment is here to stay.
