Fantastic Four: First Steps Sets Franchise Record with $389.7 Million Worldwide Gross Despite Box Office Drops
Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps has grossed $389.7 million worldwide, surpassing all previous Fantastic Four films to become the highest-grossing installment in the franchise despite a decline in box office collections.

Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four: First Steps has claimed a significant milestone by becoming the highest-grossing Fantastic Four film of all time, with a worldwide gross of approximately $389.7 million as of early August 2025. This remarkable feat surpasses the previous record held for nearly two decades by the 2005 Fantastic Four film, which grossed $334 million globally.
The film opened strongly on July 25, 2025, with an impressive $24.4 million generated from Thursday night previews—the highest preview gross for any film released in 2025, edging past Superman. It went on to debut with a $117.6 million opening weekend domestically and $100 million internationally, totaling about $218 million worldwide in its first weekend alone.
Despite this powerful start, First Steps experienced sharp declines in subsequent weekends. The movie saw an 80% drop on its second Friday and a 66% decline during its second weekend, reflecting one of the steepest downturns among comic book movies this year. Nonetheless, it maintained the top box office spot in North America for two consecutive weekends and continued to perform well, particularly in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
With a domestic gross exceeding $219 million and over $170 million from international markets, the film’s $389.7 million total places it firmly ahead of all other Fantastic Four movies, including the 2007 sequel Rise of the Silver Surfer ($301 million) and the 2015 reboot ($167 million).
Fantastic Four: First Steps serves as the MCU’s 37th entry and kicks off Phase Six, garnering significant attention as it revitalizes the “First Family” franchise. While the movie’s week-to-week box office drops raise questions about its staying power, its overall financial success is a bright spot for Marvel following mixed results earlier in the year with other titles.
This achievement underscores Marvel’s continuing dominance in the superhero genre and sets a new standard for the Fantastic Four films, positioning First Steps as a key player in the MCU’s ongoing evolution.
