Keanu Reeves’ latest release Good Fortune arrived in cinemas with decent reviews, yet the film has been unable to convert that positive start into box office success. Even after nearly a month, the movie continues to lag behind expectations and is still far from recovering its production cost. According to box office data, Good Fortune earned only $32,000 on its 28th day in North America, marking a steep weekly fall of nearly 72%. It is currently playing in just 746 theaters, reflecting reduced demand.
Even as the film edges forward, the gap remains wide.
Media reports suggest that Good Fortune was produced on a $30 million budget, which is considered moderate by Hollywood standards. However, the film has not yet managed to recoup even this amount.
With worldwide earnings at $23.2 million, it still needs around $7 million just to match its production cost.
To be considered a true box office success and ultimately break even—including marketing and distribution expenses—the movie would need approximately $75 million, an outcome that now appears highly unlikely.
The film revolves around Gabriel (Keanu Reeves), a clumsy yet well-meaning angel who interferes in the lives of a financially struggling gig worker (Aziz Ansari) and a wealthy venture capitalist (Seth Rogen).
Due to its underperformance in cinemas, Good Fortune made an early shift to digital platforms. The movie became available via PVOD on November 7, and viewers can now rent or buy it on Apple TV, Prime Video, Fandango at Home, and YouTube.
