Ashwin Kumar’s animated action-drama Mahavatar Narsimha has made a notable debut at the box office. Released on 25 July 2025, the mythological film earned an estimated ₹2.29 crore worldwide on its opening day. Backed by Hombale Films, the movie brings to life the story of Lord Vishnu’s powerful incarnation Narsimha, and audiences across India are responding positively to its grand animated treatment.
Among the five languages in which the film was released, the Hindi version led the opening day collection with ₹1.51 crore. This was followed by the Telugu version with ₹38 lakh, Kannada with ₹7 lakh, Malayalam with ₹3 lakh, and Tamil with ₹2 lakh. While the overall numbers are modest, the film is being appreciated for its visual quality and storytelling, and positive word-of-mouth could lead to stronger performance over the weekend.
Mahavatar Narsimha draws its narrative from ancient Indian scriptures, portraying the legendary tale of Lord Narsimha, the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The story centers around the divine intervention that led to the downfall of the demon king Hiranyakashipu and the protection of the devout Prahlad.
Audiences have particularly praised the film’s animation style and mythological depth. Despite a relatively low opening figure compared to mainstream blockbusters, the movie is gaining traction online, especially on platforms like Twitter, where fans are appreciating the visuals and emotional storytelling.
The film has been edited by Kleem Productions and scored by composer Sam CS. It was penned by Jaypoorna Das and Rudra Pratap Ghosh, and produced by Shilpa Dhawan, Kushal Desai, and Chaitanya Desai.
Mahavatar Narsimha is just the beginning of an ambitious mythological animated universe. Hombale Films and Kleem Productions have already announced plans for a decade-long franchise that will explore all ten divine avatars (Dashavatara) of Lord Vishnu. The series aims to reintroduce Indian mythology to new generations through high-quality animation and cinematic storytelling.
With Mahavatar Narsimha setting the stage, the studio hopes to keep building this universe, combining cultural reverence with modern cinematic techniques.
