Even after completing three weeks in theatres, the animated film Mahavatar Narsimha continues to deliver extraordinary numbers at the Indian box office. Released in Hindi and multiple dubbed languages, the movie initially opened on a decent note but gradually turned out to be a huge crowd-puller.
What makes its run especially surprising is the release of two massive films – War 2 and Coolie – on August 14. Despite facing such big competition, Mahavatar Narsimha proved to be unaffected and showed a historic jump on Independence Day.
On the day of War 2 and Coolie’s release, the film earned only ₹2.35 crore, but the very next day (August 15, Independence Day, also the film’s Day 22), collections skyrocketed to ₹6.97 crore, marking a phenomenal +196.59% jump.
The most remarkable part of Mahavatar Narsimha’s success story is not just its raw earnings but its profitability. The film was made on a controlled budget of just ₹15 crore.
So far, with ₹195.42 crore net earnings, its ROI (returns on investment) stands at a massive ₹180.42 crore, which translates to 1202.8% returns – the highest for any Bollywood film in the modern era.
With this achievement, Mahavatar Narsimha has now officially surpassed The Kashmir Files, which had previously held the record with 1162% returns.
Bollywood has seen several superhits and blockbusters, but profitability is a different measure than sheer earnings. The Kashmir Files in 2022 had shocked the trade with its exceptional ROI, but now, Mahavatar Narsimha has rewritten history.
With 1200%+ returns, it is now the most profitable Bollywood movie ever in the modern era. What makes this feat even more special is the fact that it is an animated film, a genre that rarely grosses such gigantic numbers in India.
The film was released in multiple languages – Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. But the real driver of this success story is the Hindi version, which alone has contributed ₹147.02 crore net so far. On Day 23, the Hindi box office is expected to cross the ₹150 crore milestone, further solidifying the film’s dominance.
Trade experts believe that the film still has “fuel left in the tank.” With a strong hold in single screens and solid holiday advantage, Mahavatar Narsimha is expected to add significantly more numbers in the coming weeks. Even if collections slow down from here, the film has already ensured its place in box office history.
Its record-breaking profitability gives Indian animation a new identity on the big screen and opens the door for future projects in this genre. For Bollywood, this is a landmark, proving that big-budget stars and extravagant production values are not the only road to success – controlled budgets with strong content can also create history.
In just 22 days, Mahavatar Narsimha has become the most profitable Bollywood film of the modern era, with over 1200% returns, defeating The Kashmir Files. With ₹195+ crore domestic net haul and a massive Hindi contribution, the animated epic continues to surprise the industry while rewriting box office records.
