Rajinikanth’s highly anticipated Tamil action thriller Coolie is making waves in North America even before its official release, setting a new record for premiere day advance sales. The film has already grossed over USD 1.7 million from advance bookings across the USA and Canada, breaking the previous record held by Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Leo: Bloody Sweet, which had amassed USD 1.3 million in premiere day ticket sales in the USA.
With four days left before its premiere, Coolie has sold more than 56,000 tickets across 467 locations, scheduling 1,485 shows in North America. This demand reflects an unprecedented level of enthusiasm from fans and has generated sold-out shows and high occupancy rates. Industry experts consider this momentum “sensational,” and expect the film’s premiere sales to exceed USD 2 million—an exceptional feat for any Indian film in the region.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie features an ensemble cast including Nagarjuna, Pooja Hegde, and a special appearance by Aamir Khan alongside Rajinikanth. The film’s storyline revolves around a man’s relentless quest for vengeance, filled with high-octane drama and action sequences that have heightened audience anticipation.
In India, Coolie is also generating excitement with advance bookings opening gradually, especially strong in key circuits like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka. The global advance booking totals are expected to reach unprecedented levels, with projections estimating Rs 85 to 95 crore in pre-release revenue worldwide.
Coolie is set for release on August 14, 2025, coinciding with the Independence Day weekend, and will face competition from Bollywood’s War 2 starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani.
