The upcoming cinematic adaptation of Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is already creating waves in the Indian film industry — and not just for its star-studded cast. In a recent podcast interview, producer Namit Malhotra revealed the film’s total budget across two parts is projected to exceed ₹4000 crore (over $500 million) — a figure never seen before in Indian cinema.
Producer Breaks Silence: “This is a ₹4000+ crore dream project”
Speaking on a podcast hosted by Prakhar Gupta, Namit Malhotra called Ramayana his lifetime project. When asked about the production cost, he confirmed:
“By the time we complete both parts — Part One and Part Two — the total budget will be close to $500 million, which is over ₹4000 crore. No Indian film has ever come close to this.”
He added:
“I’m saying this because we’re making the biggest movie in the world, for the greatest story ever told. Even compared to Hollywood, I feel we’re delivering something huge — at a relatively lower cost.”

Namit Malhotra also revealed that he is in talks with a major Hollywood studio for international distribution. According to him, Ramayana is being built with a global audience in mind, aiming to be India’s answer to major cinematic universes.
“It’s not just about money for me,” Malhotra said. “It’s about telling our stories on the world stage, and giving Indian mythology the platform it deserves.”
Bigger Than Baahubali, Adipurush & RRR
In terms of budget, Ramayana has already outpaced mega-blockbusters like Baahubali, RRR, and Adipurush. The big question now is:
Can it also break all box office records?
