Aamir Khan and Genelia D’Souza Deshmukh starrer Sitaare Zameen Par has begun its journey at the box office. On the first day, it performed a little softer than expected. The film opened with a worldwide collection of ₹19.50 crore . At the domestic box office, the film collected ₹10.50 crore (net) on the first day. While it earned ₹6.75 crore (USD 800k) from the international markets . Trade analysts were a little worried about this slow start, especially for a film starring a big star like Aamir Khan, but hopes were still intact that the film would perform well over the weekend.
The film has earned a net of ₹10.70 crores on the first day in the domestic market i.e. India. The gross total was ₹12.62 crores. According to trade reports, these figures are much better than the earlier estimates. Compared to the slow start of Aamir Khan’s last film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ has got a good opening, which shows that the audience is still excited about the film.
It is also worth noting that the film has secured the sixth spot in the biggest opening films of the year 2025 on its very first day.
The film has received a good response not only in India but also at the international box office. The film made a great collection of ₹ 7.15 crores on the first day from the overseas market. The film has received positive reviews and a good opening in countries like Gulf countries, USA, UK and Australia.
According to experts, Aamir Khan’s films are supported by a different section overseas who prefer “sensitive storytelling” and “emotional appeal”, and ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ also falls in the same category.
The advance booking of the film was close to ₹3.6 crores, which is a very good figure for a content driven film. The special thing was that a tremendous increase was seen in ticket booking on Thursday and Friday, the day before the weekend. The initial response of the audience has been very positive. There has been a shower of praise on social media for the story of the film, the acting of the children and the performance of Aamir Khan.
Sitaare Zameen Par saw a huge jump at the box office on Saturday, i.e. the second day, which has given a sigh of relief to the makers of the film. According to initial estimates, the film has earned ₹6.53 crores by Saturday afternoon. Due to which its total collection reached from ₹17.23 crores.
Industry experts believe that the total net collection on Saturday could reach ₹14-15 crores , which could give a massive 90-100% growth over the first day. This jump is being attributed to positive word-of-mouth and the weekend, as audiences are slowly getting attracted to the film.
This strong growth in audiences in theatres shows that the film is holding its ground and its collections are likely to increase further in the coming days.
Box office experts believe that the film’s content and word-of-mouth could lead to a massive jump in collections on Saturday and Sunday. Analysts estimate that the film could earn ₹14-15 crores on Saturday and cross the ₹18 crore mark on Sunday. If this trend continues, the film could make a total collection of ₹45-50 crores in its first weekend.
