Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari (2025)
Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor starrer Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari is receiving a weak response from audiences. Released on October 2nd, the romantic comedy faced competition from Rishab Shetty ‘s blockbuster Kantara Chapter 1, which severely impacted its business.
The film has so far collected ₹36.25 crore in six days, while Kantara Chapter 1 (Hindi) has reached close to the ₹100 crore mark during the same period.
Sunny Sanskari’s Tulsi Kumari earned ₹3 crore on Tuesday, taking the total collection to ₹36.25 crore, reports Sacnilk .
On its opening day, October 2, the film earned ₹9.25 crore, but on Friday, the collection dropped to ₹5.5 crore .
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh also commented on the film’s underperformance. He said,
“#SunnySanskariKiTulsiKumari remained on the lower side on crucial Monday, benefitting from the #BOGO offer, the decline on Monday vis-a-vis Friday is of 45.92%.”
According to trade reports, the film was expected to get some help from the #BlockbusterTuesdays offering that ran on Tuesday, but its impact was also limited.
Directed by Shashank Khaitan, the film is a romantic comedy , based on Varun Dhawan’s previous hit films Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania .
The film’s story revolves around the relationship between Sunny and Tulsi , where their love story unfolds amidst family values and modern thinking. The lead roles include Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Rohit Saraf, and Sanya Malhotra.
“The film’s title itself gives away its ending. Sunny and Tulsi’s complicated yet sweet love story is emotionally engaging, but a more nuanced story and stronger humor could have made the film even more enjoyable.”
Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari ‘s release was ill-timed, as it coincided with the release of mega-blockbuster Kantara Chapter 1. Despite the star-studded pairing of Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor and a light-hearted story, the film’s box office performance was disappointing. It remains to be seen whether an OTT release can revive it in the coming days.
