Ayushmann Khurrana’s horror-drama Thamma has opened to an extraordinary response at the Indian box office. Benefiting from the Laxmi Pooja holiday, the film witnessed a phenomenal turnout, becoming one of the biggest openers of 2025.
The official numbers are in! Thamma collected ₹25.11 crore net in India on day 1, with a gross of ₹29.62 crore including taxes. Despite facing competition from Kantara Chapter 1 (Hindi), Jolly LLB 3, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, the film dominated as the top choice for moviegoers.
The film didn’t just open big—it broke several major records on its first day, setting new benchmarks for Ayushmann Khurrana, Maddock Films, and Bollywood’s horror genre.
Thamma now stands as the third-highest opener ever for Maddock Films, surpassing Sky Force (₹15.30 crore) but still behind Chhaava (₹33.10 crore) and Stree 2 (₹64.8 crore).
In the horror genre, Thamma ranks fourth all-time, ahead of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (₹14.11 crore). The top three remain Stree 2 (₹64.8 crore), Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 (₹36.6 crore), and Golmaal Again (₹30.14 crore).
Ayushmann Khurrana has achieved the biggest opening of his career with Thamma, surpassing Dream Girl 2 (₹10.67 crore). The actor’s transition into horror-comedy territory has paid off in grand fashion.
Thamma also secured the second-biggest opening in the Maddock Horror Universe, just behind the blockbuster Stree 2. The collaboration of Ayushmann, Rashmika, and Nawazuddin added star power that clearly worked at the ticket counters.
Among all Bollywood films released in 2025, Thamma takes the fourth spot, overtaking Housefull 5 (₹24.35 crore). It trails behind War 2 (₹52.5 crore), Chhaava (₹33.10 crore), and Sikandar (₹30.06 crore).
