Thug Life Box Office Collection Day 17: Kamal Haasan’s Big-Budget Film ‘Thug Life’ Turns Into ‘Flop Life’ at the Box Office

The much-anticipated film Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam and starring Kamal Haasan, is now in its final stage at the cinemas. After a disappointing run during the first two weeks, the number of shows drastically dropped in the third week. Looking at the current trend, this could be the film’s last week in theatres.

A Blow to Kamal Haasan’s Hopes

Kamal Haasan’s Big Comeback Faces Major Setback. Released on 5th June, Thug Life received mostly negative reviews from critics and viewers alike. Due to the poor word of mouth, the film started dipping right from its opening week and never managed to pick up momentum at the box office.

Thug Life’s Collection in 17 Days

On Day 16, the film earned just ₹3 lakh, and on Day 17, it slightly increased to ₹4 lakh. The total net collection in India now stands at ₹48.08 crore, while the gross collection (including taxes) has reached ₹56.73 crore. Judging by the current pace, the film is unlikely to even add ₹50 lakh more, meaning it will end its run without crossing ₹50 crore net in India.

A ₹200 Crore Budget Ends in Huge Loss

According to reports, Thug Life was made on a whopping budget of ₹200 crore. However, it has only recovered around 24.04% of its cost. The film has suffered an estimated loss of ₹151.92 crore, marking it as another major flop in Kamal Haasan’s career.

Even Worse Than Indian 2

Kamal Haasan’s previous failure Indian 2 still managed to collect ₹83 crore at the box office, but Thug Life fell far behind. These numbers confirm that the film has turned out to be a massive box office failure.

Next Stop: Netflix

Directed by Mani Ratnam and featuring stars like Silambarasan TR, Trisha Krishnan, and Aishwarya Lekshmi, Thug Life was produced under the banners of Raj Kamal Films International and Madras Talkies. As per reports, the film will premiere on Netflix next month, though an official release date is yet to be announced.

‘Thug Life’ Turns Into ‘Flop Life’ at the Box Office

Despite the grand comeback of legends like Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam, Thug Life failed to bring audiences to the theatres. Neither the star-studded cast nor the high-end promotions could save the film, which has now become one of the biggest flops of the year.
