Ustaad Bhagat Singh - Pawan Kalyan
After The Raja Saab and Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, the next big Tollywood release of 2026 is Ustaad Bhagat Singh. The film stars Pawan Kalyan in the lead role and is scheduled to release in theatres on March 19.
While the film has generated excitement among fans, its overall buzz is noticeably lower compared to Pawan Kalyan’s previous highly anticipated project They Call Him OG (commonly known as OG). This reduced hype has also reflected in the film’s pre-release theatrical business, which has closed at a relatively moderate level.
When They Call Him OG was announced, it quickly became one of the most talked-about films in Tollywood. The film’s music album, teaser, and trailer generated massive attention across the country.
However, Ustaad Bhagat Singh has not managed to create the same level of excitement. One of the major reasons is the absence of chartbuster songs and a trailer that failed to create the strong impact expected from a Pawan Kalyan film.
Another factor affecting its hype is that the film is reportedly a remake of Theri, originally starring Vijay. In the post-pandemic era, several remakes have struggled at the box office, making this project a slightly risky venture.
Additionally, the film is facing a box office clash with Dhurandhar 2, which is witnessing massive demand in the Telugu market. This competition could affect audience turnout for Pawan Kalyan’s film during its opening days.
According to industry reports, the pre-release theatrical business of Ustaad Bhagat Singh has closed at around ₹127 crore worldwide.
In the Telugu states, the distribution rights have been sold for a total of ₹106 crore.
Outside the Telugu states, the distribution rights for the rest of India are valued at ₹8.5 crore, while overseas rights are estimated at ₹12.5 crore.
Overall, the worldwide pre-release theatrical business stands at ₹127 crore, which is about 29.44% lower than the ₹180 crore business achieved by They Call Him OG.
Based on these deals, the film will need to earn around ₹200 crore gross worldwide to achieve breakeven for distributors and buyers.
From a box office verdict perspective, the Pawan Kalyan starrer must collect approximately ₹150 crore net at the Indian box office to enter the safe zone.
Reports suggest that the film has been made on a budget of around ₹150 crore. Recovering this amount through domestic collections is essential for the film to avoid being labeled a financial failure.
With its release just around the corner, all eyes are now on the opening weekend performance of Ustaad Bhagat Singh, which will decide whether the film can overcome its moderate pre-release business and emerge as a box office success.
