Assam’s legendary singer and actor Zubeen Garg received a heartfelt tribute from fans as his final film, Roi Roi Binale, hit theatres across the state. The first screening began at 4:25 AM, and from that moment, every show went houseful throughout the day. Tickets across Assam have already been sold out for an entire week, reflecting the deep love and emotional connection fans share with the late icon.
The film released across 91 screens in the Northeast, including 85 in Assam, with more than 585 daily shows scheduled over the next seven days.
Nationwide, Roi Roi Binale is playing on 92 screens with over 150 daily shows, marking a historic release for an Assamese film.
For the first time ever, an Assamese film is being showcased in major Indian cities like Lucknow, Pune, Dehradun, Patna, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur, Goa, and Indore, among others — a rare milestone for regional cinema.
Director Rajesh Bhuyan shared his emotional reaction with NDTV, saying:
“This isn’t just Zubeen’s film; it belongs to the people. Fans have turned up as early as 4 AM, even in the rain. You don’t see such passion often in Indian cinema — this is the magic of Zubeen Garg.”
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state government’s share of GST revenue from Roi Roi Binale will be donated to the Kalaguru Artiste Foundation.
The funds will support medical aid for artists, flood relief efforts, and scholarships for underprivileged students — a gesture that honors Zubeen’s lifelong dedication to art and humanity.
In Guwahati, long queues formed outside theatres from the early morning hours. At Anuradha Cinema Hall, many fans were seen in tears after watching Zubeen Garg on the big screen for the last time.
Producer Shyamantak Gautam told NDTV:
“The response is phenomenal. Every screening is houseful. Over 800 shows are scheduled across the country, and we’re even receiving screening requests from abroad.”
From toddlers to the elderly, people of all ages flocked to theatres — a testament to the emotional bond Zubeen shared with his audience.
Roi Roi Binale is a heartfelt musical drama featuring Zubeen Garg’s original voice recordings, which were intentionally retained as a tribute to his musical genius. In the film, Zubeen plays a visually-impaired rockstar, a character that mirrors his passion, depth, and soulful artistry.
