Coolie vs War 2 Week 1 Indian Box Office: Rajinikanth Ahead, But Both Films Underperform

The much-anticipated box office clash between Rajinikanth’s Coolie and Hrithik Roshan’s War 2 had fans buzzing on social media. Both films were expected to deliver record-breaking numbers, but the first-week results tell a different story. While Coolie maintains a clear lead over War 2, neither film lived up to its enormous pre-release buzz.

One-Week Box Office Totals

At the end of eight days in theatres, Coolie has raked in approximately ₹261 crore gross across India. In comparison, the bigger-budget War 2 has managed ₹232 crore, about ₹30 crore less. Industry trackers suggest this margin is unlikely to change much by the end of their theatrical run.

Day-Wise Box Office Breakdown

Profitability Concerns

Despite its stronger performance, Coolie faces challenges with profitability due to high acquisition costs. Distributors on average may incur about 20% losses, though producers are expected to emerge with profits. Rajinikanth has secured his fee of ₹150 crore, while director Lokesh Kanagaraj will draw ₹50 crore.

For War 2, the picture looks more troubling. The film is on track to be a significant loss-making venture, particularly for its Andhra distributor. Even Hrithik Roshan is reportedly set to earn less than half of his usual market value due to the weaker-than-expected earnings.

Verdict: Clash With No Real Winner

While Coolie has undoubtedly “won” the box office battle against War 2 on paper, the underwhelming figures compared to the sky-high expectations suggest this clash had no absolute winner. Both films continue to play in theatres, but the pressure is now on their second-week hold to minimize further losses.
